Privacy Policy
How Visit Warrington Ltd handles your information when you use Priestley.
Last updated: 9 July 2026
Who we are
Priestley is operated by Visit Warrington Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”). We provide local discovery and search for places, events, and facts in the Warrington area.
For privacy enquiries, contact us at privacy@visitwarrington.co.uk.
What Priestley collects
What we collect depends on how you use the service:
- Search and chat. When you ask Priestley a question, we process your query to return results. In production we also log queries and technical metadata (such as response status, mode, and timing) for service improvement, quality review, and admin audit. Logs are accessed by authorised staff only.
- Outbound links. If you follow a tracked link to a business website, we record an aggregated click count. We do not store your IP address for this in v1.
- Theme preference. Your light/dark theme choice is stored in your browser (local storage) so the site remembers your setting. See our Cookies & storage notice.
- Forms. If you subscribe to the newsletter, ask the community, request a business lead, claim a partner listing, or submit a business listing update, we collect the details you provide (such as email, name, and message content) to handle that request.
- Discovery stories. Anonymous interaction counts (for example poll votes or quiz answers) may be recorded to improve content. These are not linked to a user account.
What we do not do
- Priestley search does not require you to create an account.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not use third-party advertising or marketing cookies on the public site in v1.
Why we use your information
- To provide and improve Priestley search and related local services.
- To respond to newsletter, community, partner, and business submissions.
- To pass lead requests to the relevant business when you ask us to.
- To maintain security, prevent abuse, and comply with law.
Legal bases (UK GDPR)
We rely on different bases depending on the activity, including:
- Legitimate interests — operating and improving Priestley, audit logging, and aggregated analytics.
- Consent — where you tick a box to subscribe or submit a form.
- Contract / pre-contract steps — handling a request you make to us or a listed business.
Sharing
We may share information with:
- Businesses you contact via a lead request (name, email, and message you submit).
- Service providers who host or support the site, under appropriate safeguards.
- Authorities where required by law.
Retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purpose collected — for example, while a community question is open, for the duration of a newsletter subscription, or for a reasonable period for query logs used to improve the service. We delete or anonymise data when it is no longer required.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing, and to data portability where applicable. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Contact us first and we will try to resolve your concern.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new “last updated” date.
